About Maddy E Carelock

I am currently a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Florida, co-mentored by Drs. Weizhou Zhang and Elias Sayour. My research focuses broadly on drug development, translational immuno-oncology, and cancer therapeutics. I have expertise in PROTAC degrader technology and combinatorial immunotherapy strategies across multiple cancer models, including pancreatic and breast cancer.

My current work centers on the continued optimization and translational development of newly patented PROTAC compounds, while also leading projects aimed at expanding our lab’s mRNA cancer vaccine platform. These efforts include using machine learning–guided fate mapping of circulating tumor cells to better understand metastatic progression and therapeutic vulnerability. In parallel, I am involved in translational studies applying mRNA-based cancer vaccine strategies to squamous cell carcinomas in large aquatic animal models, including dolphins and sea turtles.

Beyond the bench, I am actively involved in several campus-wide educational and outreach initiatives, including the UF Health Cancer Center Ambassador Committee, as well as mentorship programs such as the Student Science Training Program and the University Scholars Program.
